Descprition:
The work was commissioned on the occasion of Luca Zancano’s Holy Confirmation. It is a tribute by the painter to his nephew and a celebration of full Christian initiation.
The proposed dove radiates a divine light of white and golden rays and, for the first time, a layer of pure gold leaf appears on the trunks of the trees, which increases the preciousness of the painting. Furthermore, the bird does not exclusively symbolize Confirmation, but identifies the artist’s favorite subjects. Fragments of golden obsidian are placed on the legs, eyes and left wing of the dove.
Two small rhombuses are positioned in the pupils of the portrayed subjects to highlight as many small points of light; their presence gives the work a more realistic effect.
The trees, on the other hand, are embellished with red amber placed on the bark, while the cherry blossoms are enriched with amethyst; some inserts of green jade become thin blades of grass.
The work was completed exactly four years after its construction began.
