BEAUTY CONTEST
Title: “Beauty Contest“
Technique: Oil on canvas& semi-precious stones (Rodocrosite, Onyx, Cyanite)
Dimensions: 70x40cm
Year: 11/2017
Description:
The theme of this work is an hymn to the beauty of Creation as well as a research of refinement in the choice of subjects. Protagonists are a King-fisher, again, a precious gem (red Rodocrosite) – set at the centre of the painting- and a Strelitzia.
The overtly poetic title stresses the contest between two objective beauties.
The semi-precious stones inserted in the painting are themselves a a natural work of art and possess intrinsic meanings, which I re-interpret as follows:
the Onyx, set in the bird’s eye represents the need of hunting for survival of the species, the heart- shaped, red Rodocrosite recalls love and emits golden rays of inner light, while the Cyanite, symbolic leaves have been added to further enrich the Strelitzia’s beauty.
